2 Miles, now that was Easy

I woke up later than I had planned this morning, but hey, it’s a holiday right?! I set out for a 2 mile easy run.

I use Runner’s World Smart Coach to set-up my training schedules. I like how it sets things out for me for at least 16 weeks and I don’t have to think too much about the set-up of my plan. I always use my 2:30 half marathon time to set it up. This way the schedule expects me to run around 12:00/miles for my easy runs. With my nervousness over my knee, this is good. It forces me not to go and run too fast too soon.

Well, today I did much better than I had even imagined…. under 10:00/mile!

It wasn’t an easy run for the first mile. It’s been a long time since I have had a real run of any sort. Once I settled in and tried not to think about my left knee, I felt better. It was amazing, if I concentrated on my left knee it started to feel funny. If I tried to think about other things, I felt nothing.

To be safe, I’m doing things the right way this time (ice, strength training, stretching). I am so glad we went to the farm and filled our freezer with tons of vegetables for the winter. I don’t know if we’ll eat them, but they sure come in handy to ice my knees. Today, split peas on my left knee, corn on my right. Ahh, that feels good. Maybe some vitamins will seep through the plastic bags?

Lastly, I received an email confirming my entrance to the Half Marathon next spring, May 2009. I’m thrilled! I’m a confirmed entrant and now my training begins!

Running Kate is back!

And for the first time in a long time, I feel more comfortable in my own skin now than ever!

How I’m doin’

So far, in the past 4 1/2 weeks since tackling bodybuilding as a new passion I’ve lost 5lbs (138 to 133 lbs), I’ve increased my weights and have made my goal of 6+ hours of exercise a week. In addition, I’ve fine tuned my eating habits and have felt wonderful from doing so. I’ve changed them to something I can live with forever. I understand many bodybuilders ‘cut’ before shows, but I want to be able to find a lifestyle that I can stay steady with. I might change a few things weeks ahead of a show, but right now I want to concentrate on just eating well to enhance my workouts, not go against them.

This week I’ve already complete 7 hours of exercise and have another bike ride ahead of me tomorrow. For some extremists, this isn’t as much as them, but for me = awesome! It’s always great to see some results and start to achieve your goals!

Track work

K-dot picked me up and we hit the track to change our weekend runs. I would like to work on speed and shorter runs than long distance. This will help me gain muscle, remove the fat and keep me running… and enjoying it.

Jogged 1/2 mile…
400M = 1:57
200M = 0:50
100M = 0:19.3
100M = 0:17.5

Hopefully my times will get faster each week!

Then we did like 300 stairs, up & down throughout the bleachers. It was fun! :)

2 Mile Jaunt

Opps, I did it again! I woke up this morning, early as I could to be out for a run at 6:40am! I will be getting up even earlier next week when I start coming into work earlier. I feel good. After work today I have to stop by the gym to do some lower body lifting. Other than that, I am glad to be on track this week. Working out in the morning affords me no excuse and therefore I just get them done.

I’m proud of myself and I believe I’ve lost 3lbs in the past week or so. I was around 138.5lbs since Sept after we got back from our honeymoon. Since then, I haven’t made great strides to get any workouts in. Now though, I’ve decided to eat better and exercise more regularly to train for some races this summer. So, I’m feeling it and glad I’ll be able to get the extra weight I gained that week finally off. It doesn’t look like I’ve gained 7-8lbs, but I am sure you understand when I tell you I can feel it when I run!

4 Miles with k-diggles

I ran with K-dot, aka Keith, today. We had a good run and took a bunch of fun pictures at the end. I have to process them, but I’ll post more soon… busy busy with house remodeling!

Excellent 4 Mile run!

My knee didn’t feel sore until around the last mile. I stopped twice to stretch it out during the run. K-dot and I had a good run, I discovered that I’m “Super Immunity”! Since through chatting I realized that I must carry pnuemonia or the flu to other people, but never get it myself. I knew about 15 people who got sick this winter season, but I never got anything. So… I have super powers… Immunity!

I am happy with today’s run. We kept a pretty steady pace around 10:00 miles.  Here’s the breakdown:
1 - 10:05
2 - 10:05
3 - 10:10
4 - 9:49

Fastest run thus far… :)

A short run for me

The dust has been blown off! Chris and I took Bambi out for a run-walk for the first mile. Then we dropped her off home and went for another mile run.

Mile 1 = 20 minutes
Mile 2 = 13 minutes

I have chosen a goal race, in August. I have the option of doing anywhere from 10 miles to 50K for this race. I’ll decide the actual distance come June when I have to sign-up for it. Otherwise, I am just building up my base miles to get ready for a half-marathon or a full one, come this fall!

Hello Again

Hello again
Its been too long,
Too long,
Too long,
Hello again
You know you got what it is I want
Anyway I’m gonna take it from you

DMB

I listened to this song while running. It made me think “Hello Again to Running!” and “You know you got what I want, Runners High!” and “I’m gonna take it from you, no matter what!”.

My knee - not the slightest pain or issue! I needed this badly! My muscles were a little tight and I was out of breath, but I survived. 1 Mile, sheesh… I felt like I had just started! The store-bought orthotics are helping a lot. What a $5 investment!

And… I hit up the tanning salon afterwards. It was just what I needed to clear my mind today. I feel refreshed, although my glands and my neck hurt while running. I hope to ward off any cold!

Bambi then took a quick 1/2 mile walk with me after my run. I like to run, then come back and take her for a walk. She always wants to come on my run, but I feel it’s a treat for her after and I get to cool down with my pal!

I can breathe!

I ran, the end.  Just kidding! It was a good run. I’m amazed I could still breathe! I had to go to my parents house today to go under their house to clean up mold. I was armed with bleach, goggles, a face mask and sweats to go over my clothes. I felt I should have had HAZMAT in bright orange on my back! They only have a crawl space, so I had to crawl under the house and clean up some mold that was growing. I found the source to be some snail bait my dad put down there a few months ago. I told him to never do that again! Not likely, since he’s sick. So, I had to spray bleach, then scoop it all out, then spray bleach again! My lungs were crying for help, even with the face mask!

Regardless, I was able to make it home to head to the gym. Not before having lunch from Arbys with my parents! I rarely eat fast food, but my dad loves it. Since we’re trying to get him to eat and gain any weight he can (he weighs like 150 - which is no good) we all rally around him when he wants fast food or any food. He won’t eat it alone though and loves to get everyone to have some. So, I had a sub, a few fries and some of his vanilla milkshake. Every time I visit, we have fast food, crazy stuff! I’m just glad to see him eating, because come Monday he’ll have 3 days of chemo and feel terrible for two weeks again.

1 Mile RUN!!! :)

This was great! I did the elliptical first, then ran on the treadmill. I was hoping to do 2 miles, but did one. I got up to 8.0 mph on the treadmill! I stayed at that for at least 30 seconds. The rest of the run was around 5.5-6 mph. So, I’m happy. It’s a beginning!

Merry Christmas! Go spend time with your family :)
